Summer 2022

For 10 to 13 year olds, exploring different parts of Hong Kong

Island Waldorf School’s Summer Program is founded on the principles of Waldorf education. We aim at providing a balanced experience of doing, feeling and thinking in a way that stimulates (unplugged!) fun, creativity and a sense of well-being. Our thoughtful mix of indoor and outdoor activities will create a gentle rhythm that nourishes the child’s developing coordination, cooperation and creativity.

Each week will be a joyful journey through physical challenges, community exploration, and social bonding. This program is designed to keep pre-teens healthily entertained yet intellectually stimulated in the summer.

This group will be led by our Teacher Cindy, an experienced Waldorf class teacher. Teacher to student ratio will remain below 1:15.

Some meals during program time are included in program cost. Students may also bring their own food. Please see program notes below.

Unplugged fun

Our goal is to provide an engaging, unplugged, outdoor themed summer experience for pre-teens in Hong Kong. As they undergo physical transformations approaching the middle school years, their idea of fun is decidedly different from that of the young ones. In addition to time for free play, pre-teens also need to feel challenged, stimulated, and accomplished. Our program is designed to bring them out of their school-day routines, away from screens, and into new experiences.

The great outdoors, right here in Hong Kong!

We believe that Hong Kong children of all ages would benefit greatly from physical challenges out in nature. Children benefit profoundly when they are given a chance to connect with and appreciate the natural environment. Nature play significantly improves all aspects of child development – physical, cognitive, social and emotional. Wild camping and city exploration go hand in hand in exposing our children to the wide variety of experiences that Hong Kong has to offer!

Breathe in, breathe out

The steady rhythm of expansive activities and quiet attention is vital in helping children integrate their external and internal experiences. This value is reflected in the comforting routines in a day, in a week, and in seasons at Waldorf schools.
