Summer 2022

For 5 to 10 year olds on Lamma Island

Island Waldorf School’s Summer Program is founded on the principles of Waldorf education. We aim at providing a balanced experience of doing, feeling and thinking in a way that stimulates (unplugged!) fun, creativity and a sense of well-being. Our thoughtful mix of indoor and outdoor activities will create a gentle rhythm that nourishes the child’s developing coordination, cooperation and creativity.

Each day will be a joyful journey through imaginative play, circle games, songs and stories. There will be time for focused activity and free and creative play each day. This is a forest-school setting where children can be immersed in nature.

Children aged 5 to 10 will enjoy a harmonious environment where rhythm and structure encourage opportunities for play and artistic activities, including songs, games, water play, storytelling, puppet shows, crafts, woodwork, pottery, beewax modeling, watercolour painting, and more!

Every Thursday we will spend the morning at a nearby beach. Parents are encouraged to let this be an opportunity for children to exercise their independence and self-care skills.

Summer class will be led by our Teacher Kaelly who speak English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Teacher to student ratio will remain below 1:10. Maximum capacity is 50.

Delicious vegetarian lunch will be provided daily at no additional charge. Students may also bring their own lunch.

The great outdoors, right here in Hong Kong!

We believe that nature play is an antidote to the overly hurried and structured childhood in today’s Hong Kong. Children benefit profoundly when they are given a chance to connect with and appreciate the natural environment. Nature play significantly improves all aspects of child development – physical, cognitive, social and emotional.

The Tannery is located in a beautiful corner of Lamma Island, near Tannery Beach and the Yung Shue Wan pier.

Every Thursday we will spend the whole morning at a nearby beach, so that children can enjoy swimming in the cool waves and playing in the sand under a tree.

Healthy snacks = Healthy minds

Little people need lots of energy to grow. Every day our teachers would prepare fresh fruits and make yummy baked food with the children’s help right in the classroom.

Breathe in, breathe out

The steady rhythm of expansive activities and quiet attention is vital in helping children integrate their external and internal experiences. This value is reflected in the comforting routines in a day, in a week, and in seasons at Waldorf schools.
